Re: Hoya ND8 Filter help

Mine was a 58mm thread and cost £89. They go up and down in price depending on the size

Re: Hoya ND8 Filter help

That number i sent you is correct. Just received it and I can tell you it is like a porsche compared to others makes, which are like a ford for build quality. It was £92.28 inc VAT and postage.

Re: Hoya ND8 Filter help

Thanks Jonni for the info.

Can anyone tell me if the Canon 50mm lens is good for landscape shots, or would I be better using the 18-55 lens?

Re: Hoya ND8 Filter help

I would of thought both are good but the 18-55 will give you a wider shot.

Re: Hoya ND8 Filter help

To be honest most lens can be used for landscapes, it all depends what effect you wish to have.

A telephoto lens will compress perspective and is great where this effect is required.

A wide angle lens is good at capturing wide vistas but you normally have to make sure there is some foreground object to give it scale.

A standard lens (35mm - 60mm) on a full frame or 35mm film will give you a view very similar to what the eye sees.

A good practice is to set your zoom at a specific point, say 40mm and go out and take loads of images and instead of zooming in and out, use your feet to fill the frame or vary the view by walking in forward and back.

You will be surprised the difference it makes by just moving in a bit or vice versa to the picture and perspective it gives you.

It's what us old farts had to do before zooms were available or up to scratch.

Re: Hoya ND8 Filter help

Thanks Jonni and Steve.

Steve. I like my 50 alot and have learnt the old fashion way on zooming..... move closer to the object

I was thinking If I went for a 52mm filter is would fit on my nifty and my 60mm marcro lens if I wanted it too.

Thanks for the help everyone

Re: Hoya ND8 Filter help

I would always advise getting a screw in filter that is the largest that you need to fit your largest diameter lens and then buy step down rings to adapt the filter to fit your smaller lenses
