Mallards in My Pond

Amen! The sun finally broke through this afternoon long enough for me to grab my camera gear and play in my back yard. In my new apartment that includes a nice little pond with a water jet in the middle, a walk-over bridge, and plenty of Mallard duck & geese. They are so tame that when I first ventured out 4-6 just walked (waddled) up to my feet, expecting a handout I suppose. I had no problem getting really close for my shots.

I used my 55-200 zoom for the first time to make sure I could get close enough to do any good. Little did I know they would have eaten right out of my hand if I'd brought food.

I really like the photo I'm posting and may add it to my new gallery. You all get it for free. LOL Comments welcome.

Re: Mallards in My Pond

The light is gorgeous Bob Not sure about the composition, it comes across as a little generic for my tastes - good angle though x

Re: Mallards in My Pond

I like it bob! I'd rather have seen the duck in front in full focus, but it's a minor point. Very nice!

Re: Mallards in My Pond

Nice one with the 55-200 - great little lens isn't it!

The faces seem a little dark here, maybe lighten then a bit?

Re: Mallards in My Pond

It's pretty well exposed considering one is in the sun and the other is in the shade, and the lighting is great. Agree that a larger DoF is needed to get both birds in focus though.

I like my 55-200mm as well, especially for nice friendly birds like mallard!
