Re: How can I preview RAW files

You can usually download a raw reader for your OS from your camera manufacturers website. Although sometimes you get it in an OS update.

Re: How can I preview RAW files

Do you not have the Raw software that came with your Canon Camera ?

Now memory cards are so much bigger and cheaper - another option to minimise review time is to set the camera to take Raw + Jpeg. You can quickly rifle through the jpegs to decide which of the RAW files you want to take forward.

Canon 1D Mark 3
Canon EF 17-40mm f/4 L USM
Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM
Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
Kit 2
1D2 & 40D

Re: How can I preview RAW files

this is why I asked on another thread if my workflow was right or wrong or could be improved
if I shoot RAW I get 197 pictures on my card
if I shoot RAW and JPEG im down to Im down to 144 pictures
so I shoot RAW and I take out the embedded JPEG (which is used to allow us to check our pictures in camera ) using CS5
for those that dont know how I put the RAWs into a folder which is called "new folder" ,I leave it as new folder until it finished grabbing the JPEGs because this comes up every time and theres no searching .
open CS5
click file and down to scripts and across to Image Processor
click select folder and find "new folder" (you only need to do this the first time)
then click run
this then automatically puts a new folder in with the raws with the JPEGS in
when its finished rename the main folder
the JPEGS are between 1.5 and 2 megs so well good for seeing what ones to dump etc

if anyone knows better ways please let me know

Re: How can I preview RAW files

If you can get hold of Lightroom, that allows you to review all the raw files and then obviously edit them. Lightroom let's you quickly sort the files you want to keep or delete, without the need to waste space on the card on jpeg.

Since my switch to raw I do almost all my editing in lightroom, only crop, clone if needed and re size in the shop.

Also I think can use bridge to view them too, or go mac and use iphoto which is free
