Re: Compact Flash Cards?

Have no idea why you can't get them, you can walk into electrical store here and buy them.

Definitely not being phased out, though.

The ain't the cheapest, but I only use Sandisk , decent quality CF cards to me, are important, without them working correctly, you have zero pictures

Re: Compact Flash Cards?

No arguments..they are still out there.

But the Legit market and more to the point the High street market has virtually stopped stocking them overnight.

Which makes me wonder if there is a plan by Canon/Nikon etc to restrict and therefore cost control the market for them in the future.

Re: Compact Flash Cards?

I think a lot of folk buy things like this 'online' rather than in the shops.

My 40D is Compact Flash only but my 1D takes Compact Flash and SD

SD are more popular just because they are used in so many more cameras especially compacts.

I personally perfer CF to SD - less likely to loose the little blighters.

Re: Compact Flash Cards?

CF cards are meant to be more reliable (apparently). The way the contacts mate in the camera etc. All the professional cameras use CF cards.

Moonie has already said, Sandisk (Ultra or Extreme), or maybe Lexar professional, you can get them at 7 day shop (usually competitive prices and will tell you if stock), Amazon (careful with marketplace), MyMemory or the dedicated retailers. There are loads of fakes around. Ebay seems to be detoriating into more and more fake goods when even the ad claims items are genuine.

If you shoot RAW, or even video, you need fast write times. Buy the cards, maybe two or three, and then enjoy them for the next few years, they should last - and the Sandisks I think have a lifetime or five year warranty.
