Re: Wil this work for my camera and speedlight?

Thanks Bazza but I already have a speedlight. I would like to be able to use it away from my camera though.
I generally bounce it off a ceiling or a wall and it drives me potty that everytime I change the angle of the camera I have readjust the direction of the flash.

Re: Wil this work for my camera and speedlight?

The camera may not have the software built in for off camera flash wired of wireless.
If wired then there will be a socket outlet on the camera for a flash to plug into. I strongly suspect that your camera is not designed for off camera flashguns, if its not mentioned in the handbook then all I can suggest you e-mail Canon and ask them.

One of the reasons people upgrade their cameras ( I am on my 3rd upgrade) is that they find out the limitations of their existing cameras and want to go beyond the cameras capabilities.

This is why conversly to most peoples opinion,I always advocate buying the most expensive camera possible even if it means going a little above budget. Ok like yourself you think understandably you are buying what you need initially, as you can see I fell also into that trap, so your not alone.I know of others who have upgraded their cameras as well for this very reason.

The trend is to think that thats a far too complicated camera for me and I will never need/use all the built in features, not the way to think of it. Best to think, I may not need all that the camera can do but should I need more out of a camera I don't have to upgrade as my existing camera already can do it.

Wireless hotshoe flash trigger for off camera flash photography

Wireless flash triggers are an easy way to use off camera flash for more dynamic lighting effects in your photography.
Using wireless flash triggers means you aren't restricted by cables, or line of sight which is one of the issues with other methods of using off camera flash. You can position the flash guns anywhere you want to create lighting effects which will dramatically improve the photos you create.
When you use flash radio triggers with your flashguns, you need to have the transmitter which is normally situated on the camera hotshoe and a receiver which you attach to your flashgun via either the hotshoe fitting or a cable. The transmitter and receiver must be set to the same channel in order for them to communicate, and obviously not to the same channel as any other photographer in the vicinity.
There are many different makes of flash trigger, some are a lot cheaper than others, and performance from these cheaper radio triggers varies. Some people don't have any problems with them whereas others have misfires and reliability issues, but as the cost is very low, the odd misfire can be accepted.
The cheaper triggers are generally from Hong Kong, and a popular brand is the Cactus trigger from Gadget Infinity. These are low cost, usually from around £50 for the basic transmitter and receiver kit.
At the other end of the scale are brands such as Pocket Wizards which are very reliable but will cost you around £450 for a transmitter and receiver set.
If you are an amateur or hobbyist photographer then the expense of gear like Pocket Wizards may be prohibitive but if you are a pro and need to have the most reliable equipment you can then the expense of the Pocket Wizards isn't so much of an issue if it gives you the reliability to make sure you get the shots you want.
