The Big Garden Bird watch 2012

Good Day Everybody.

Over this weekend this years Big Garden Bird Watch has been taking place run through the RSPB website. Has anybody else taken part in it?? Basically you sit in your garden or view from back window and log down all the birds you see in an hour and how many.

Mostly usual suspects to our garden today, one new visitor though Only posting 2 images from today. Enjoy

My 1st Dunnock

And this poor fella. He had an abnormal beak, cannot see the full length of it in this image, was about 4 inches

Thanks for looking

Re: The Big Garden Bird watch 2012

Thanks Dave & Kay

It could of been something you could of taken part in with the kids Dave ....Haha on the Taxi driving Is that not what being a parent/Grandparent is all about

Kay - It is a shame the RSPB only do this once a year, i thought they might of done one for each season of the year because surely sightings change with the seasons. You can however take part in the British trust for Ornithology surveys all year around, they do a garden bird count amongst other surveys on our garden visitors

Re: The Big Garden Bird watch 2012

I haven't ever heard of the garden watch. Sounds fun. My garden watch would consist of squirrels, blue jays, sparrows, squirrels, cardinals and oh yea....squirrels. Counted 14 squirrels at my feeder at one time. I like your shots. But, I haven't seen a starling with this long beak problem. Is this a birth defect? Working with Wildlife Rehab center I have seen many birth defects but none such as this.

Its something ive seen several times in different species, as you say a defect. Many of the birds seem to adapt well and manage to find enough food to survive.
