Re: Post a pic: Shallow Depth of Field

thanks! small size really takes it out of this image; at full resoltuion the eye is sharp as a needle. it's wicked! I was so excited when i found i had got this shot - only had 2 minutes to get it, and i was basically guessing with my flashes. one of them i don't think even fired. Sometimes you jsut get lucky!

Re: Post a pic: Shallow Depth of Field

When reducing/saving for web do you sharpen first? I always add some sharpening to compensate as the image becomes softer when you reduce the size

Re: Post a pic: Shallow Depth of Field

Almost never. It used to be part of my process, but I found that it became unnecessary and was one more step away from the print file I use. When I go to print I allow lightroom to sharpen, but never before.

Re: Post a pic: Shallow Depth of Field

When posting images on the web, at that size, you really do need to sharpen. Did you reduce the image to 750 x 498 pixels, or did you upload the original and that is one of the sizes it's given you?

I always save smaller sizes for the web when I know I will be posting - because the reduction in size by photohosts isn't the best quality. Plus they don't sharpen when reducing in size as that adds to the file size anyway (so if anything they do the opposite to save disk space).

I use smart sharpen in photoshop around 20 to 30% depending on the image

Re: Post a pic: Shallow Depth of Field

I always make the images smaller before uploading them. I've never really seen a difference; at 750 pixels it changes barely anything, and at 500, which is the size
I usen in my blog, it has practically 0 effect becausenphotoahop basically sharpens images when it shrinks them anyways.
