How much room?

How much room do you need to set up a studio? I think the room i am using is a little on the small side and when we move i will be looking at places with outbuildings to convert into a studio.

i have converted a room that is probably 3mx3m i have my backdrop on one wall (which fills the wall) and my lights to the edge of this.

Does anyone else have a studio and if so how big and what layout have you got?

As much as you can get! My room is iddy biddy so i can only do full shots of the kids or head shots.

At risk of sounding like a bloke (LOL) Width isnt important, its the length! You need, realistically no less than 6ft between the background and the subject. I get around this by poppping a light right at the back on the bakground so i dont get much of a shadow cast from the stobes.

I know what you mean - iv looked at a couple of units on our town center, but ther just so expensive. They charge way over the odds. The amount of empty slots they have is stupid - all because the rent is to high.

Agree with KK, from what I have seen you need quite a lot of room esp length-wise and with enough width for all your lighting etc.

I would get in touch with the local chamber of commerce and ask if they know of any grants or schemes for start-ups, you could get help with it all.
