Not a great morning.

I got up today, sun was shining my knee was fine so decided to take my camera out with the dogs and get some photos of them running and anything else I thought would make a good shot.

I open the door it was now grey, overcast and spits of rain in the air. But I thought the camera is still going with me as it would give me practice shooting out of the auto modes on days like this, Im a bit of a wuss who like nice bright days better.

Every photo I took was crap, mainly to bright, a few to dark and a ton of the dog ones blurred. So in the end I went back to shooting in the auto modes

I will post some of the bad shots later so you kind folk can let me no where I went wrong.
Also to make matters worse I put my foot in a hole and now my knee is sore again.

Re: Not a great morning.

The weather I really, really hate trying to shoot in is when you get that flat sky ...no clouds at all , it is really hard to try and get anything decent in the way of landscapes etc. Flash is good for nature pics under those circumstances though

I feel for you Don;t get disheartened, keep practising ..change everything and make sure to look at the exif details afterwards so you know what you changed

Re: Not a great morning.

overcast weather is great for outside portraiture, as the clouds ack like a natural diffuser, allowing for some nice shots with very minimal shadows! Like Mell pointed out, its rubbishe for pretty much everything else.

Try not to get ahead of yourself while out shooting. If this weather is a new situation to shoot in, then try to capture static objects. It will allow you to make comparative shots at different settings and then you can see what works and what doesnt.

Except waterfalls, overcast weather can work in your favour for those too

Re: Not a great morning.

We have a couple of waterfalls, but I didnt fancy going where they are as it normally means soaking wet dogs.

I think it was less the dog shots that annoyed me but more a couple of landscape type shots. It wont deter me though as the way I see it the photos I took cant get any worse (i dont think anyway).

ETA, I dont know if the weather helped but I did get a good shot of star looking chocolate, have had problems in the past, he either looked black and detail-less.

The last two, no. On the first I think it might have been the shutter speed but not sure.
