Re: BW Field

Actually in this instance I don't agree, it's outside, it prints up lovely with the detail and tones, the foreground has only 1 feature, but all comments appreciated. Each has their own opinion.

Re: BW Field

You are right Stu - accept comments for what they are... opinions; what matters is what you want from the pictures you take.

I think it's a great image when viewed full size.

I like the composition and the feeder as the main focal point. The subtle use of lines of shade and light radiating from the feeder, plus the angle of the path and mimicry of the fence posts, pull the eye in which negate any initial distractions; the value contrast of the feeder to its subordinate area also helps highlight the key focal point. From the focal point then my eyes explored the rest of the image - which is well balanced, great tones and contrast.

I like how you have used the trees to keep the viewer in the picture - nice work.

As an aside - I think your landscape images and use of monochrome has really improved, you are producing some great work - you are obviously thinking more before pressing that shutter release.

Re: BW Field

I'm in agreement with Jack here. The way the eye is drawn by the radiating lines in the grass/straw and the way the trees stop the eye from wandering off out of the frame makes one concentrate on the feeder.

If I were to suggest an improvement it would be to toe down the bright patch of sky as I find it does compete a bit with the feeder for attention because it is the brightest part of the image. However, I could quite happily live with image as is.

Re: BW Field

Talking personally I like it, well I think the composition is a cracker, no need to comment on the PP as you know my views but I would not mind seeing it in colour.

Did you use a fisheye or is it just a wide lens, whatever the effect is good and because it pulls the eye into the image it is for me very appealing. One I shall keep with me so when I am taking landscape shots I can see how to do it correctly.

PS - just looked again and I am not sure it is not the curve of the tree that gives the 'wide' look, not that it matters I love the shot.

At the bottom of the thread you will sometimes find "Tags". Just below where the "Reply" button is. Now if, as BC as done, the original poster tags the thread with the camera, lens or any other info it will show up here. In this case BC used Nikon D300 and Sigma 10-20mm lens.

Now I am as guilty as anyone else but I would urge all to use these tags as they can be very useful to the viewer when wondering, as here, which lens was used etc.

Snapper, hope I'm not stating the obvious here and if so I apologise.

Re: BW Field

As it happens Steve I was able to look at the exif and it shows the shot taken at 16mm so I think there may be some curvature from the lens in the shot. Unfortunately the reader I use does not give me any lens detail.
