Re: Priory

Think I may have liked it straight from the camera but I don't like the grain effect nor the very strange colour.

Being more critical I think who ever planted those two bushes there and then clipped them to look like woollen hats should find a different job, the Priory looks very picturesque but the shrubbery does not.

Re: Priory

Agree with all of the above (esp. the bit about the topiary!!). I think it's al ovely building - and the shot has plenty of merit - however, something I can't put my finger on is not right for me.

Perhaps it's the PP? I think less vignetting and a bit more saturation may help? But I could be wrong - I think it could be the topiary that's throwing the image a bit, as it's just strange!

Good try though!

xx

ETA - actaully- you know... the topiary is animals sat on top of the bushes isn't it? They may actually be very good - but the picture doesn't show it - I think they blend in too well with the building at this colour... perhaps reverting to the original may be better - desaturating the building if neccessary? Just a thought?

Re: Priory

Yes, it is meant to be animals but they were not as well defined as you would hope for. It's not really the shot.

It was just a bit of a play really, the day was crap and rainy, sky was featureless white/grey, not blown, I thought it was a good location but I wandered around and damned if I could really just get the shot I felt happy with. However, on the full size image I thought it looked passable as not too bad a photograph. As you would expect I have it in mono but that seems to attract criticism in itelf in this forum so I uploaded this version instead.

Re: Priory

I'd like to see the mono! I don't know a lot about mono at all - and don't do very well with it myself, so I'd alwaysl ike to see mono to help me learn too!

Re: Priory

Hi BC, it is me who does not like mono, but that is mono for monos sake or because the sky is not good however if you took the shot to be viewed in mono then mono it should be.

It does look better full size but it is the sort of bittiness (OK know it is not a proper word but can't think of one to describe what I see) of the image that I do not like, have seen it on others images as well as though the camera or the operator has overdone some adjustment or other.

Tbh I think in this case a beautiful building has been ruined by the setting someone, not you, decided to put it in and they, not you, should be shot at dawn.
