Re: My pathetic first attempts

Okay, well I think you've been too hard on yourself, there are some lovely pic in there, especially the shots of your daughter on Tink. The snow pic is nice too.

Your focusing isn't bad , watch out for cluttered backgrounds that detract from the main subject, like the lovely Cruiser shot.

I like the branch and the doorway shot.

Start by reading the basics that are on here , and learn one thing at a time,Exposure, Aperture, Shutter speed etc.

The reason the Robin is your best,is because, P&S do virtually everything for you, but once you get to grips with your DSLR, they will be better than your P&S

Re: My pathetic first attempts

Thats a great starting point.
I feel your fustration. I found at first that my DSLR pictures were way worse than my p and s images. The DSLR can be very unforgiving but once you get to grips with it you'll be amazed at what you can do!

Suze gave great advice. Start with the basics and slowly work your way through them.
Her point about backgrounds is an important one too. If you look at your 'Viking Friend' picture my eye is drawn to the plastic stuff in the background. That head has great potential so go back and look it again, clear the background, take the rubbish out of its mouth and see what a difference it makes.
