D300s video - help?

OK, so I'm not sure if this is something anyone here can help me with - but this is exactly why I was a bit dubious about video on a D300 basically, we gave the video a trial run last night when I was playing a gig - did one video in medium quality - which was fine, and one video in high quality, which on playback we've found is about 10-20 seconds out of sync... it's very annoying indeed - hearing myself play music, and not seeing myself play music! Any thoughts?

Karl thought perhaps the card isn't fast enough? That the sound was being written to card before image? I don't know how feasible that is?

This is very annoying was hoping those videos would be good enough for online.

Re: D300s video - help?

OK - so, have checked them on the camera again, they seem fine on the camera... so this is something to do with being put on the PC? How do I remedy that? This is all a bit new to me tbh. It's only the higher quality ones.

Re: D300s video - help?

It could be the processor in your computer isn't fast enough or not enough RAM. Download Belarc from here

http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html.

It tells you what your computer is made up by and the components

When downloaded do a printout and take it to a computer builder and ask if your can be upgraded and if it would sort out your problem. Just a suggestion

Re: D300s video - help?

What sort of speed would you be talking then? The processor we have - if I have the right thing... () is an intel Celeron D... and I think it's 3.46GHz

As I said, I don't do techy stuff... so this is just a guess!

Re: D300s video - help?

If it's ok on the cam then yes, it's something on your PC.

How fast is the hard drive?
How much memory does your PC have?
What processor?
Do you have a dedicated graphics card?

They can all have an impact on performance for video.

Re: D300s video - help?

In answer to the above qs...

Hard Drive Speed = 7200 RPM
Memory = 512 RAM
Processor = intel Celeron D 3.46GHz
Graphics Card = 128 MB Nvidia

Have also discovered that the videos seem to work OK in Picasa too - so perhaps the isue is actually WMP?

Re: D300s video - help?

Way to little RAM . If you look at the printout as above in Memory Modules there are slots. If my guess is correct you only show one slot being used of 512MB (DIMM0). depending on how many slots usually 2 or four (DIMM1-DIMM2 etc) you should upgrade to about 4 GIG. Different plug in (RAM) modules have different amount of pins so if unsure best left to an expert. The cost of each RAM module again depends on what your motherboard accepts so prices can vary wildly. It again depends on how many slots are available as to the amount of RAM on each module, if you only have 2 slots you should be looking to upgrade to each module of 2 RAM.

If you have windowsXP then the Max will be a total of 4GIG RAM, whereas Vista can take up to 8 gig of RAM

AS a tip if using Adobe editing suites the recommended minimum amount to get the programs running at the right speed is 4 gig of RAM memory

Re: D300s video - help?

I have no idea what all that means! but I don't think that's the problem, as I have discovered the clips work fine in all the programs I've tried except Windows Media Player...

Re: D300s video - help?

Zounds that is the problem I think, your computer can't work fast enough to process the data.
If you look at the printout how many slots are available and how many being used? these determine how fast your computer can process the data.

Take the computer to a shop and ask for a RAM upgrade to 4GIG and see the difference. In theory it should work about roughly 8x faster, or in your terms from a chugger to an express train

Re: D300s video - help?

On one of my computers I have 4 gig of RAM expandable t0 8GIG if I installed Vista, but on the other due to the motherboard to which all components inside a computer attach to, I can only go up to 2 gig of RAM.
Also make sure the fan vent on your computer is dust free, this not only overheats the power unit but can slow down a computer as well
