Street View

Has anybody else been whizzing up down the 'photographic' streets on Google Street View ?

I was playing around today in work although it is kind of my job

Pretty impressive i thought.

Not seen it online but i did have the car following me through Winsford and Whitegate on Wed. Luke was gawping out the window wondering if they had mission control in their car! LOL

Re: Street View

I love Google Earth it's one of my fave programs!

I really don't know what the fuss is about, people's faces are blotted out and if you find one that's not they'll remove it.

It is very useful, and a fantastic way to see what other parts of the world are like - I looked at tonnes of streets in Australia, as I was thinking about moving there!

Re: Street View

I found Google Earth a bit addictive although the resolution was rubbish unless you lived in a major town / city.

Google Street View (being at ground level) opens up a whole new 'view' although it's just the main urban areas for now.

Geographical Information Systems (GIS) is what I do for a living and whilst our database is geo-referenced against Ordnance Survey digital map-base products - any photographic add ons come in handy especially if they're free.

Re: Street View

I just don't see the problem myself. I'm still of the view that if you don't want something like this then do you have something to hide? We are able to see photo's from years gone by with people in them etc and it's part of our history, what are people in 40 years or more going to be able to see due to the PC brigade?

Re: Street View

I have had a go on it over the last few days and really like the concept, however I can appreciate why it can throw up some privacy issues (although I found the one regarding a man to be seen exiting a less than salubrious establishment somewhat amusing )

It depends on how much you can see, I looked up my parents house (as my area has not been mapped yet) and the detail was very good, however you could see right into my old bedroom!

Re: Street View

Isn't it a strange country of double standards we live in? The government will sell your personal details to all and sundry, and leave your personal information and war secrets on a train, they will sell information you provide to register your car to private companies so they can find out who you are and make their money. They think its important enough to employ people to spy on those who leave rubbish, yet thousands of criminal offenders have been let out of prison to relieve overcrowding, they worry about terrorism and bring in laws or at least foster authorities and private citizens to challenge those we see on the street with a camera photographing police or public buldings... Yet here is a tool that photographs practically every private house and public building in the UK, you can look at it in fantastic detail from above and now you can drive up the street and see everything you need to plan how to blow it up or burgle it. What a joke.
