diasterous night shot

Not sure if this is in the right place BUT here goes...

after reading here I now realise that there is more to a photo than point and shoot. Thia was taken on night portrait +12/3 EV ISO auto No tripod (reccomended for night shots having now read manual!!) and from a distance of about 2 metres.



So what should I have done?

Also on the theme of night shots...I took the following photo on my mobile of Derren Brown the first is the original, the 2nd is my attempt at brightening it...anyone do anything with it? so it might actually look like Derren
