Nice pose, angle and frame Jessica - I would adjust the levels to make it a little brighter and clone out the background/settee.

Do you have an editing programme,some software to edit an image?
It's a tool, that helps get rid of distracting elements in a shot.

Hey JP welcome to yop.
Cloning out the settee is going to leave you with an odd looking shadow that stops just at his eye, then you will have to try somehow to get rid of that too.
You have to ask yourself is it worth the time and effort to do all that cloning when you can just take more shots,
and improve on composition and lighting yourself rather than rely on a graphics suite to try delete your mistakes.
Try to see what is going on around your camera's viewfinder, not just your subject. Look out for distracting objects and shadows and see if you can avoid them by either moving yourself or asking your subject to move.
Hopefully, when you post more of your portrait type shots, someone else will help you and give sensible advice about composition and lighting rather than the poor advice given above about using a graphics suite.

Ideally, you want to learn about composition, lighting, and using your camera - but in the case where a re-shoot is not possible, editing can come into its own.
For this photo I would re-shoot as per Grant's advice (tho I don't agree with him that the editing advice was 'poor'). Check out our tips for beginners in Photography advice for beginners.

^^ I agree with DJ - cloning out objects when you can easily reshoot is a waste of time. Learn to see what's in the view finder and analyze the image before pressing the shutter xx
