Common Buzzards

There were half a dozen common buzzards about in the big trees at the end of the garden today. The dogs put them up but I managed a few shots.

Re: Common Buzzards

Always love your bird shots Phil and these are no exception.

You said before you have it on spot metering, is the focus light just one (center) or do you leave them all on?

Re: Common Buzzards

Nicely exposed against the sky some appear to be in pristine condition.

Re: Common Buzzards

Thanks folks.

Skyline - as general rule of thumb - if I'm just walking about anticipating photographing any bird in flight (with the 40D) I tend to just have the camera set for spot metering otherwise too much of the sky is taken into account and the bird just ends up an under-exposed silhouette. I'll also add a little bit of overexposure (a stop to the right) just to make sure. I'll have ISO set to about 800, AF set to AI SERVO (so I can track it) with just centre point focus active. On the 1D Mark 2 you can have the surrounding focus points also acting as 'assist' focus points which helps with little birds that are harder to track.

Cheers for that. I need lots more practice. I went to the Thames estuary last week. While there I tried a few gull shots. Lets just say there are in the recycle bin lol
