Mastering Digital Photography (Book Review)

Brief Review of MASTERING DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY – Michael Freeman

ISBN – 978-1-905814-42-8

ILEX (ilex-press.com)

RRP £29.99

Do you spend an absolute fortune every month on Photography magazines, and often wonder if you would have been better off just buying a book? Yes, me too – so I did! I brought the book above.

I have quite a wide range of photographic books covering most areas of photography and post-processing – some are great and go to great depths of geekiness, others are just too vague to be of use. But I’ve recently brought a book that I am happy to recommend to fellow Yoppers…

Michael Freeman needs little introduction; he has written countless books on photography…

From the very minute you open the first of the massive 640 pages of this fantastic hardback book; you will find it difficult to put it down.

If you chose to read it from cover to cover, front to back, or just dip into it as you require - you will not be disappointed. This book really has got the lot!

Michael Freeman has obviously thought about the target audience for this book and has tried to include a little of everything for someone with their first digital camera to enough information for those who are more experienced.

This isn’t a book filled with mind-numbing scientific or technical detail – what it does do is gives concise overviews from a practical perspective.

Moreover, this book also focuses on the latest digital techniques from a photographer’s perspective, rather than that of a Photoshop computer expert. It will furnish you just enough information with tips and ideas that you will remember when you take your camera in the field. You will find yourself returning to it time after time – Guaranteed!

The index contents include:

Facts of Light
Natural light
Available light
Photographic lighting
People posed
Daily Life
Natural Landscapes
Wildlife & Habitats
Landscapes of Man
Another world
The Art of Still Life
Nature in Detail
The Language of Colour
Working digitally
Real life, real colours
The Language of Mono
Digital black & White
The Print
Digital Camera Basics

Each of these heading is then broken down into sub-topics supported by good quality photos and images and examples and useful case studies.
Granted, this book won’t fit in your Christmas stocking, but it would be a very welcome addition to your library if Santa decides to call.

It’s currently on sale at Amazon for £19.49 (a saving of 35%)

Sorry JR, not sure if my stupidity is because I am literally up to my eyes in paperwork or, more likely, just a heavy senior moment.
