Re: What's your favourite lens?

Actually Bob when I consider some of the landscapes etc. that you have produced with that lens it shows what a lovely piece of glass it is. It represents excellent value for money. I only had one for a short time, sold it on to JR's mate Craig with my D70s, but I had no complaints. Also it shows that in many instances paying for a much more expensive piece of glass is to some extent academic unless you are a professional requiring utmost quality at wide apertures or you have specific requirements. Yes there is better, but I think your pictures show what it can achieve particularly when there is good light and no rush where more expensive lenses may come into their own.

Re: What's your favourite lens?

Thanks BC. I believe knowledge of how to get the most from a piece of equipment is equally important to owning it.

Re: What's your favourite lens?

Think perhaps my answer would change depending on what I am working on at any particular time but if you told me I could only keep two of my lens I would go for the 60-250mm which is a dream to use and the 105mm macro. However I have a wide end zoom on order and I may find I am hard pushed to choose just two once I have that, and you would also need to prize my 50mm f1.4 from me as that is the only fast lens I own.

Lets face it, it's horses for courses, depends on what you are aiming to produce which lens you choose to use but it would be good to be a bit more disciplined but that is not something that comes easy to me I always want to try my idea for myself no matter how often I am told it will not work.

Re: What's your favourite lens?

I probably use my Canon EF-S 17-85mm IS USM lens more than any other. It's a good solid lens and I find it a very handy range for general landscape and general photography.

My Sigma 10-20 is also nice but being my newest lens I've not used it as much.

Nifty fifty f1.8 - I also like but don't really use as much as I thought I would.
Kit 1

Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
Kit 2

Re: What's your favourite lens?

My Nikon 18-55 imploded after 5 weeks so was only just getting togrips with it and have`nt had the replacement from Bennetts yet, got a Tamron AF 70-300 last week and am loving it so far, getting the hang of Macro with it at one end of its scale and experimenting with distance and sports shots at the other end of its capabilities so currently it`s my only lens but has far outshone the 18-55 so far - that might just be down to excitement of new kit of course, will revisit this thread perhaps when I`ve had the Tamron for a while, have got the 18-55 replacement however long that takes, and have started trying out filters and tripod / monopod shots with both lenses
