Re: Why I love the D3 and D700 - I fear no darkness

Zoundz you could still sell your kit.. don't think you'd lose that much? I was surprised at how well the D300 held it's value

I keep going on the D700 page and 'adding to cart'

Imagine that if all three of us ended up getting one

I keep blaming Guy anyway, I was all happy to wait until the summer until he posted his New Nikkor 50mm f1.4 AF-S Review

dont get me wrong, I LOVE my D80 - it still goes everywhere with me and it won't be sold! lol no fear!

Phew! I thought you were wishing you hadn't bought it!

I would of thought the D80 would of been brilliant for wildlife photography though, your bird shots are getting so good! Perhaps sell some of your bird shots, and then you'll be able to save up for the D700. Then you can have the smaller cropped body for crawling around in the dirt , and longer reach of the lens, and full frame for weddings. xxx

Never mind the pictures, did you get the name and e-mail address of the girl in white holding a compact camera in the 7th picture? You could have got this group another member.

Re: Why I love the D3 and D700 - I fear no darkness

People calm down! ...and for anyone from Liverpool 'Kharm down Kharm down...'

Everybody salivating over the D700 and willing to sell their wife and kids for medical experiments to get one. Are you all doing low light professional photography for a living? The D700 is the first of many full frame Nikons to come...

All your cameras are capable of taking pictures in exactly the circumstances Guy is demonstrating in his pictures. Are you raving over his brilliant pictures or the camera...most pictures out of a D700 will look similar to a D80 and certainly no better than a D300 unless you are looking at them considerably enlarged. You may have a bit more noise if you have had to use a faster ISO to get the same shot but the point is you can still take it most of the time. If this is your bag and you have the money go out and enjoy a 700 but everyone could achieve these pictures with some nice glass and Guy's imagination... Wedding photographers commonly used half frame Canon 20D's until recently and no one complained!

I don't reckon cameras etc. will go up as much as they say. The market won't take it. People are wary of spending and will just stop buying and wait for a decrease so the manufacturers will have to sell at less.

...of course i am looking at the D700 too...

Re: Why I love the D3 and D700 - I fear no darkness

I think that Guy would of took just as excellent photos with a d80 or d40x [my camera] or a similar Canon, cause he is a great photographer.

It s not all about equipment. In my humble opinion.

Of course it isn't all abut the camera, but there is no way Guy could of got the same results in such low light, with no other lighting without the D700 or D3. I am totally blown away by the clarity, of these pics at such low light, especially as someone whose camera has cr@p high ISO handling

Guy is hugely talented, and I admire his work, so I am not slagging him off, but I am sure he would agree, that he would not of got the same clarity and sharpness in such bad light with a D40x.

Of course the fact that Guy, has an amazing eye for natural wedding photography, helps hugely too

Guy your works Rocks! xxx

Re: Why I love the D3 and D700 - I fear no darkness

Suzi, flattery will get you everywhere

The kit vs photographer argument is an old one and I agree to a point. Buying a 1Ds III won;t make you a good photographer, but if you are one it might allow you to make great shots where a 400D wouldn't.

There's not another camera that would have got me those ISO10,000 shots. With my old 5D (a lovely, lovely camera) I'd have shut up shop at 3200...
