Re: Nikon 55-200mm OR 70-300mm

I think the big A is right Jols I think if I had my sb 800 when I took the above photo I would have had a better exposure! so maybe drop the lens for now and go for the sb 800 (as I don't think the D40x has a commander mode on the flash) and If you want to use off camera multi flash, in time, you will need the sb 800 to use as a commander unit, and if you want to use the flash off camera now you can get a flash lead for about £35-£40. My next big buy is the fuji s5 pro! top wedding camera and only £489!!!!!! real value.

Re: Nikon 55-200mm OR 70-300mm

the Nikon creative lighting system allows you to use your flash wireless off camera. Some of the Nikon range, I think D80 onwards, has the ability to do this by using the popup flash as a trigger for other compatible Nikon flash units. the D40 and I think the D40x needs to use an sb 800 as this Trigger flash.

Re: Nikon 55-200mm OR 70-300mm

So will a nikon sb400 work ok on it [that is nikon d40x] cause the reviews I have read are very good.
This is the one I am swaying for.
It is light as well.

Re: Nikon 55-200mm OR 70-300mm

yes it will work with your camera but it doesn't give you the options of the sb 600 or the sb 800 apart from not being able to use it wireless you also only have a reduced tilt and no swivel.

Re: Nikon 55-200mm OR 70-300mm

don't get me wrong the sb 400 is a great little unit and a vast improvement over a pop up flash, but with your love of wedding photography I think you would benefit greatly from the higher end flash units!

Re: Nikon 55-200mm OR 70-300mm

Ah I see what you mean now.

But I think I have decided I will get the 55-200mm nikon lens and the sb600 flash.

I am not a great lover of flash photography although obviously sometimes it is needed.

so my decision is made.............................................. .................................................. .................................................. ........I think.
