I am out of practice
For one reason or another I have not used the camera for the past week or so. So yesterday afternoon and this morning I have took a few shots, round the garden and the dogs and none have turned out that well. I guess its telling me to take more and keep practicing and asking questions on here.

Put it in auto or program mode - you might have had it in one of the manual modes without realising..

When you say they did not turn out, did you at least get something? Post them and lets have a look.
Although there is nothing wrong with getting out and taking more pictures and practicing.
