Image size whilst page loads...

Not sure what I'm missing here......

When I click on a new thread containing images - most people's images appear resized straight away so load nice and quickly however some people's seem to appear slowly at F U L L size and then eventually jump back to the resized forum size once the page has loaded.

I was just wondering what the difference is as it can sometimes prevent the page ever opening on slower mobile devices.

Re: Image size whilst page loads...

I have seen this too. I resize all my images anyway, but some are coming very large. It only seems to be some large images and not others.

Re: Image size whilst page loads...

Every thread i click on with pictures takes a few seconds to resize them and some take quite a while.

Re: Image size whilst page loads...

I find it's just certain people's pictures.

It's more of a question than a complaint.

Re: Image size whilst page loads...

It depends on the images - if they are large, it will take longer to load...

But why do some people's (regardless of how big the orginal image is) load up within the forum width with the band on the top ready to enlarge if you wish - yet others load up already enlarged and then (after waiting) shrink down to the forum width with the bar on top.

Re: Image size whilst page loads...

The question to be asked is why do people upload ridiculously huge images to the site.

1000 pixels on the longest side will be ample. But there are some images uploaded at full capture size, which is ridiculous. Please, please people learn how to reduce the size of your image. It's not rocket science.

Re: Image size whilst page loads...

It's more down to the actual file size rather than the dimensions of an image and where they are coming from. i,e I try keep my images below 200kb regardless of the image dimensions/pixel size, so for example you can still have full size image load very quickly by saving it at a reduced qua;ity setting. I agree though, even full size images that load quickly are a pain when you cant even view them on the largest of monitors, no point unless demonstrating something. Also, if they are linked to an image sharing site like flickr etc then those sites will play a part in how quickly an image loads here

It was your images that sprung to mid DJ

When I click on one of your posts each image loads slowly (about 3 feet wide so you only see the left hand side) then after waiting for them all - the page refreshes and they show the same size (forum size) as everybody elses.

It's great to have the option to see images 'super size' by clicking a quick loading image but waiting for every super size image to first shrink back to forum size before having that very same option is what I'm struggling with.

Re: Image size whilst page loads...

Are talking about my latest bird image post? if so, they are all less than 1000px wide and most less than 200kb in size. There are 14 images on this post so maybe I should have split them. I wonder if anyone else has the same problem you have when viewing this post
