Swallows in flight - not good for the neck.

Re: Swallows in flight - not good for the neck.

Hats off to you Phil, a very difficult bird to photograph due to its speed when in flight. Images 3 & 5 my personal favorites. Hope your neck is not too sore in the morning. The pain and suffering we put ourselves through in search of a decent image, when you get a good result though its worth it

Re: Swallows in flight - not good for the neck.

Wow Phil, I can only imagine how difficult that must be. I've often watched them dart about after insects and thought how impossible it would be to catch on camera.

Re: Swallows in flight - not good for the neck.

Thanks folks - trying to track them is a bit of a hit and miss exercise resulting in far more misses than hits.

Even in good light I find the AI Servo autofocus on the 40D just doesn't keep with these little blighters which is a shame as the crop factor would give me that little extra reach.

AI Servo autofocus on the 1D Mark 2 sticks to the little blighters without any problems although an f2.8 lens would no doubt make life easier !

These are great Phil. Great work in getting them. One day I will move off the wood pigeons sitting on a fence.

Good set Phil, BIF are always difficult to photograph and the speedy little swallows must be really difficult! I hope your neck gets better soon!
