Best kit for taking snow covered mountain shots.

I am off to NOT ski in Austria while everyone else zooms down the slopes.I have a basic kit lens for my canon 400 but would be interested to know what to put on my xmas list that would specifically enhance some landscape photography.

I have not really done much of this genre so have no idea what would be best so therefore hoping for some ideas.Would I be better to go for a WA(budget) lens or some filters and if so which ones ....I have a basic tripod that I inherited form Phil.....

I am probably working within a £150 budget.

I can't remember the focal length of your kit lens - probably something like 17mm or 18mm at it's widest ? I'd be inclined to stick with the lens you have and perhaps look at getting a screw in circular polarizing filter which will help to cut down on reflections and also reduce the haze.

The best tip for shooting in snow is to over expose your shots by +1 or +2 stops as snow often fools the cameras metering system and whilst it's white, the camera will want to make it a mid grey.

Im with Phil ,your two lenses (18-55 and 70-300) gives you all you need.
my biggest worry when I now do snow shots is condensation so a good camera bag is needed and when you go back into the warm dont take the camera out straight away ,leave the camera in the bag to warm up slowly for as long as you can .
I took a camera to Switzerland with no case the lens kept condensating up and a year later was unuseable due to mildew so I learnt my lesson the hard way.

Definitely agree, a new lens is probably not needed, but perhaps a filter
