ISO Variations (updated with example)

I thought i'd check out the difference between the ISO settings on my D50.

I just took any old shot at ISO 200 then without moving the camera or any settings changed to ISO 1600.

I expected the ISO 1600 picture to have a grainier look but to be honest there's no visible difference.

What 'type' of conditions would I need to have to see the difference ?

Re: ISO Variations (updated with example)

Slower shutter speed and higher ISO the conditions need to me night time or dark

you will mostly notice noise in the darker areas of you image - also you would be ablt to see it better in a larger image.

Re: ISO Variations (updated with example)

You wont get much difference or at least a clear one no. Im not sure on the ins and outs but i think the light kind of over rides the noise?!

Phil - when you say there is no visible difference, are you viewing the full size image? I shot at ISO 1600 before (when I should have been shooting at ISO 400) and the images were rather grainy. I had nothing to compare them too though.

No - just in the viewfinder. I wondered if the differences would be visible once i'd got them on the pc.
