Is the Nikon D800 popular?

Looking on that auction site it seems as though there is a large number of Nikon D800 second hand cameras for sale with a low shutter count from private owners. I was thinking it may be the 36 mp with a slow continuous frame rate might be the problem. The D600 has far less for sale on the same site, maybe its a better bet to buy?

Re: Is the Nikon D800 popular?

D600 looks a good bet Bazza unless you're wanting the very high res of the D800 for studio work etc.

Both Mid-size bodies of a similar size and weight. FPS on the D800 might not be up there with Nikon D3S/D4 or Canon 1D/5DIII but it's very respectable when you think of the size of the files it's having to dump. I thought the D600 was in the same ball park ?

Re: Is the Nikon D800 popular?

The D600 is newer, so there won't likely be as many used ones yet. I have the D800E and think it's awesome.

I have a Panasonic Hc-X900M camcorder and the 600 version so the movie side of the D800 doesn't really interest me. Its what the stills side of the D800 can do. Having done more research than possible needed on the D800 it looks as if by mid May I shall be the proud owner fingers crossed and my D300 as a backup.

What the reviews are saying is you need good glass to do the camera justice, I do have a 24-70mm f2.8 Nikon lens that should be a good start and my other lenses wil be a case of try and see.

Re: Is the Nikon D800 popular?

Something I have been considering for a few weeks. The D800 is about £2000 plus say the nikon 24-70mm f2.8 lens £1200 and say the 14-24 mm lens about the same price thats another £2400 just for 2 lenses. You need good glass for that D800 so everyone says to get the best out of the camera. The Nikon D600 is about £1400 but lacks some of the features of the D800.

I have decided on the D800 as I already have a couple of suitable lenses for it and the main thing I looked at was being able to use any remote control wired or wireless whereas the D600 you are stuck with the remote that comes with it which I don't think for a camera of that price is good enough.

Having said that I am keeping my D300 for those 8 frames a second i can get from it with the en-el4a battery pack I have attached to it and a Panasonic HC-X900M camcorder for video work.

There are several other reasons why I am looking more at the D800 , like shutter speed for one 1/8000/sec against the d600 1/4000 sec but you really need to do a like for like comparison and the type of photography you do.

The question you have to ask yourself is " am I happy with the camera I have and can it do everything I want to do in photography?" if the answer is yes then don't change if the answer is no then upgrade to a better model.

Re: Is the Nikon D800 popular?

yes! I'm thinking which one to buy, Nikon D600 or D800. I used to do with my D5300, and planning to buy a new one. Do you have ideas on which is better? I do portraits mostly.
