I assume the first is in true colour but to me the second shows more character. Daft ain't it, same shot but the amended one has so much more to say.

You say it's a "bit wishy washy" but the fist shot is spot on to me.

The whites wouldn't want to be much brighter and the darks are just dark enough to retain detail.

I know the thread is to show 'smart filters' but I think you could get a really bold image with the first one by changing to a dark background rather than altering the bird ?

Interesting effect Grant, I do like the edit but to me it is a little overdone. Like Phil, I would be interested to see the original on a dark background - I think that would work well
