Thoughts on my portfolio site?

I've created a site for myself, 1 reason is because I needed to for a univesity unit of work, and 2 is pretty obvious.

I've refined this site a lot, I know there is easier ways to do it, but I just want some general opinions.

Nice - I like it! Some great photos there Dan.

You copyright is off center tho, I know why you've done it, but search engines will see that as spamming, never have link colours the same as the background

Re: Thoughts on my portfolio site?

Had a quick visit - looks nice

I like your shot of the pier in the landscape gallery !

Visual Communication at Bournemouth - I very nearly did that course back in 1990 - it was very much geared towards technical illustration back then although I suspect it's changed. From memory Blackpool, Falmouth (Truro) and Bournemouth (Poole) were considered the pick of the bunch.

Re: Thoughts on my portfolio site?

Tried it in Opera and IE.

At the bottom it says:

Website Design & All Images © 2009

But on the end of that is a link: Daniel Hodson which is the same colour as the background - so you can't see it unless you select all that text.

See it?

Re: Thoughts on my portfolio site?

Hello,

Firstly what I like

The layout is clean and simple, but very effective. This gives the site a very professional look and feel, as well as a striking look. The site has a very simple, uncluttered layout, and you would have to be fairly inept if you couldn't navigate your way around this site. Well done

What could be changed?

1. The landing page, is that required? do I need to press 'Enter'? (3 second timeout maybe).

2. The 'Gallery' 'Contact' 'Bio' 'Links' are not at first obvious that they are links, maybe a lighter text.

3. I think the page should start a few more pixels down the screen (very close to the top of the browser)

4. Overall, while I like the site, on my IBM laptop it is very dark, the grey text is too dark, maybe bring up the level of the whole page 'slightly'

Well done for making it fit the standard 1024x768 resolution, it's a great looking site and you should be pleased

Alan.

Hmm It looks okay in the browsers I trialed. maybe It's not a websafe colour.

Thanks Alan for a nice slice of what you do/dont like. Splash pages always get mixed reviews, I've a fan of them I've tried to show a contact detail link before they see the work. I opted to get it to fit in the browser, as for the pixel space at the top. I'm pretty much a html novice so It's % based for when its on a larger resolution.

As for the colours, same again as what Azz said, I'm going to find a websafe grey.
