SeaLion Spa

Another scooter ride took me to the Pacific Ocean in Astoria, OR yesterday to visit the sea lions. They lounge around all over fingers of the wharf system there. It's not pretty but they seem to love to catch a few rays. The smell is..... unique.

Re: SeaLion Spa

Even though they are a mere few yards from you and easily captured with my 18-200mm zoom I wouldn't want to get too close. These are big and fiesty wild animals that wouldn't hesitate to chomp into a human. I really don't know how the boat owners get past them as they lay everywhere along the walkways leading to the docked ships. There were at least 100 spread around the dozen or so wharfs.

NIce capture Bob

I recently visited Pier 39 in San Francisco, down at Fisherman's Wharf, and you're right about that " unique " smell

The Sea lion numbers were way down on previous years though, apparently due to over-fishing off the coast.

Still a great sight to see ( and hear ) though

Re: SeaLion Spa

Awesome! Why are they branded like that? Do you know? Is it much the same as tagging?

Yes, they are tagged to follow their movements.
