Re: Walk-around lens for a 400D

Well, the Camera Shop can get me a Tamron lens by Monday..Yep, and a 6 year warrenty as well.

The owner said he has never seen one but ordered several for customers in recent weeks..and they have none returned.

Now..I need to learn to use it!

Thank you everyone for your help..you were great!

Re: Walk-around lens for a 400D

Brought it home yesterday.
It is horrid cloudy dull day, but once I have decent something to shoot..

The interesting thing is that these lenses are becoming scarcer than hen's teeth. The manager of the Camera shop said he has had 4 people in the last four days asking for this lens..and he can't find one for them. I got the only one their chain of stores had.
It is incredibly well made and even the store manager commented on that.
It will "creep" but also has a lock.
I think it will do better in better lighting.
For a walk-around lens..this will do it for me quite nicely.

I was afraid I would not be able to hand hold a shot at 270 mm focal length..think I can?

Forgive the horrid pictures.. but both hand held
this is a focal length of 20 mm

this is a focal length of 270

Re: Walk-around lens for a 400D

Thats a very good range Riverside. I often thought my 55-200vr was a tad short, that extra 100 or so would have come in real handy!

Re: Walk-around lens for a 400D

All taken through glass...because it is still 9 below zero despite it being sunny and 1 pm...I am not going out there!

The feeders and tree are also quite a way from the house.
So these amount to just some snapshots at 270 mm. with better light.

They've actually come out pretty decent considering you shot them through a window!

Why not brave the cold one day and get into some nitty gritty

Re: Walk-around lens for a 400D

Now it is a tad milder..back to dull and dreary.

After taking close to 100 photos of Blue jays stealing peants..even on a tripod, despite increasing shutter speeds... I had soft captures.
It seems it is much slower to focus than either of my Canon lenses, and not a lens to take to a sports event.

I am so new to SLR cameras..and now lenses...I probably really shouldn't be posting anything here.
However..if you don't mind a "lurker"??
