Locations Madeira

Hi,

Not sure I've posted this in the right location. I'm contemplating a trip to the Portugese Island of Maderia, has anybody on here ever been and if so could you give me some advice on locations?

Thanks

Re: Locations Madeira

Not been to Maderia myself Richard but my folks were there not that long ago and from what I saw of their holiday snaps - it certainly looks like a great place for photography.

This link looks good if only for a little inspiration...

Re: Locations Madeira

I've been. Its a lovely island, but not particularly large, so I guess it wouldn't matter where you stayed. We were just on the west outskirts of Funchal on the cliffs - an easy stroll into town. At that time, Funchal was about the only place to stay. Funchal itself was great too - 'proper' markets rather than all tourist stuff and the people were so friendly.

Mind you, its several years since we were there and the outskirts of Funchal look to be far more developed now...probably not good news as I suspect that will also have had an impact on the town - i.e. far more touristy.

I loved it then - would be interesting to hear how its change though.
