Re: Shopkeeper

Where do you keep finding these characters ?

I like the processing suits the subject, my only niggle is, I would of prefered it, if he'd been off centre more.

Re: Shopkeeper

BC

That is a great character and an ideal location.

Personally I think it is a bit too sharp for the oldee worlde location. That might seem daft but when I look at it I can see straight away that has been taken with modern equipment because it is pin sharp.

Maybe a little Gaussian blur would take the edge of and give that old look.

Great image, just me being picky

Re: Shopkeeper

I agree wiht MS that the composition isn't as strong as it could be. The picture feels a little unbalanced at the moment.
You have captured another great character though and I love the PP.

Re: Shopkeeper

Thanks for the comments...seriously appreciated, genuinely interesting to hear opinions to what i had...and ideas for improvements or changes...hmmm..., I thought I preferred him just centre frame, bang in the centre, not on the thirds, sort of me and my shop... I actually considered it a compositional strength and sort of different, stronger image. Ok, wait until i find my workshop guy, I'll upload that just to prove i can shoot off centre....

Interesting idea Steve, I will have a play with blur and see if i can create the effect...if Azz gives feedback that it is soft and OoF I'll point him to you! ...and if Bob can only say he is constipated (the character, not bob) i'll throw teddy from pram!

Re: Shopkeeper

I think the unbalance for me comes from that empty, curtained area to the left.
Have you tried a different crop? Maybe more square?

Re: Shopkeeper

It's the curtain area for me too, maybe a portrait crop, lose the curtain side Dopes that make sense and then put him slightly to the right more in the frame.

I won't edit it, as it bugs the hell out of me, when people do it to me

Re: Shopkeeper

Very nice BC

I know what Steve's getting at regarding that 'yesteryear' feel but I guess that depends on whether you want to capture a nice clean image of a 'time gone by' or create an image which seems to have been taken a hundred years ago.

People spend a fortune these days to get the best IQ possible which I understand and it therefore goes against the grain (no pun intended) to sometimes blur an image or even (god forbid) introduce noise.

I always think it's a bit like music - I play guitar and strive to be as clinical as I can however - there's no doubt blues sounds at it's most authentic when played 'dirty' and 'loose' - likewise - Motown somehow needs to be 'tinny'.
