As for the halo comments - I can see a slightly lighter patch around the front of the first bike and around the rider in the second. I didn't spot them till MD had mentioned it and I'm not even sure it isn't just difference is track / grass tones behind.
Are you guys sure it's not an optical illusion?

I can see a large softer area in what you're saying, but that could be blur/light? :-/

Tbh, I think a lot of it was the language you used - maybe it's just me but 'you need to work a bit harder on your editing' comes across a tad patronising.

Why even say that? Why not just say you can see a halo? :-/

Re: Last Panners Of The Year...

Not that I have a lot of experience in this type of photography, but to me the pictures are pin sharp with a nicely blurred background.

I have noticed the lightening around the bikes, but it doesn't bother me overmuch.

A competent set, I would say.

What language????
Are you kidding me?

Does anyone else honestly think the above comment is patronising?

Stanokella is not a beginner. I was speaking to him in a grown up, matter-of-fact way.

Please read my original post again, and instead of picking out the negative bits that you want to, why not mention the positives...which I've highlighted below...just incase you missed them the first time!

[quote=Mandé Daguerre;106802]Your compositions are great, and are usually always pin sharp, but you need to work harder on your editing.

...which is a shame because for me at least, the glow takes away from what would otherwise have been a nice little set of images, and one that is technically very difficult to do.

There are actually more compliments in my original post than criticisms, and yet you still feel the need to point out the negative.

I'm absolutely sick and tired of this now, and it's clear Azz, that most people on this forum can't take criticism....even when they ask for it, and even when it's served alongside a compliment, and you as administrator almost always automatically jump to the defence of the person who is complaining, although in this case Stan hasn't actually complained..yet.

What is the point of this forum?

When I joined, it was sold to me as a place where we could all come and share, not just our photographs, but anything we learn along the way.
If you post an image and have the C&C box ticked, then it's because you want feedback...but that feedback won't always be positive 100% of the time. It can't be...otherwise you must be perfect, and have no further need for this, or any other forum.

And as for the language used...I think it is I who deserve the apology. He asked for C&C...I gave him C&C...and he tells me that I'm so far off the mark that he "almost couldn't be bothered replying."

I don't see you mentioning anything about the tone of that comment Azz.
Is that acceptable?
Ask for C&C and then act like a child when it's not the C&C you want to hear!
Well...?
Why couldn't he just have said he disagreed with me, or say that he likes the image that way and just left it at that?

Why did he choose to add a cheeky comment, and why did you choose to ignore it and instead question me?

MD

Seeing that this is the second time you have got an adverse reaction to one of your 'critiques', then yes, I would think I'm not the only one who thinks you came across a little harsh/patronising.

Maybe you don't realise you're doing it? It seems very unlike you to be honest, and I've only noticed you doing it recently.

Lots of people offer critiques on photos, but don't get people's backs up - so it is possible, and people are willing to hear them - if reasonable and without remarks that can be taken as a 'dig'.

While two wrongs don't make a right - it's understandable when people 'snap back'.

Re: Last Panners Of The Year...

I think the difference in the light/halo has been caused because the vignette is very dark, so any light not caught in the vignetting, looks false if you look hard enough.

I didn't see anything wrong in MD's original C&C, he might of been a bit blunt, but not rude. Having said that, both Ste and MD have been on this forum longer than me, and know each others style of C&C, so it should all be water off a duck's back.

Compared to a lot of photography sites and forums, it was no big deal. I actually pay to belong to a forum, to have people give me honest, constructive critique so I can progress. It brings it back to what people want from this forum again, do you want C&C, or just "nice one"

Ste, I think they are a great set, and I admire your skill at being able to get super sharp shots, mine would be blurry blobs I am also guessing the vignette etc would not be so noticeable in print or full size, and part of the problem is web friendly sized images and compression, webhost etc.

Group hug everyone, come on, it's almost ChristmasXXXXX
