Superb image Phil - you can really see the difference good kit makes to the feather detail - those goldfinches are to die for!

You have done well with the Goldfinches. That scarlet face is very difficult to capture.

Re: Scruffy Coal Tit and Goldfinches

Your bird shots are wonderful Phil, they inspire me to try harder with my garden bird shots.

The Scruffy Coal Tit struck a cord with me, as I took some pictures of a poor scruffy Tit feeding it's fresh looking juvenile a few years back.

Re: Scruffy Coal Tit and Goldfinches

The little bird you call a coal tit is exactly like our Blackcapped Chickadee...does yours sing...dee dee dee?
And am sorry but as lovely as your Gold finch is, it is not what I know as a gold finch...I will hunt up some photos of our Goldfinch...Shirley

Re: Scruffy Coal Tit and Goldfinches

Shirley - American Goldfinch is very different, and absolutely beautiful! It's also actually gold! Whereas ours is not!

Black Capped Chickadee is similar to our coal tit - but it's not the same genus even. It's more like Marsh or Willow in looks...

Re: Scruffy Coal Tit and Goldfinches

very nice indeed.. love all of the little details you can see in these tiny birds. they never seem to sit still long enough to see those details unless you can grab some photos.
