Before The Devil Steals Our Tango II

This is the second and last picture from the Before The Devil Steals Our Tango shoot I had today.

Shot this horizontally mostly because it fits my website better, but I think it turned out pretty rad, so I uploaded it here as well.

Check the other one for more info.

Re: Before The Devil Steals Our Tango II

Not bad - but I do think the DOF is not so good here - the two guys at each end are OOF - which is a shame. Otherwise a great shot though, and I love the positioning in this! Would have used about f11 or so for this though.

Re: Before The Devil Steals Our Tango II

F11 in this? Excuse me, but that must be the dumbest thing I'v heard in a while. At least that's far from the way I like it.. This was shot at f/2.0, so if I went with maybe f/4.0, they would be in focus, and then the background would still be pretty blurry and leave a nice bokeh. Wish I did exactly that.

This whole shot is less sharp than the other one, not just the guys on each side. That ND8 makes it a lot harder to focus..

Re: Before The Devil Steals Our Tango II

Zoundz spotted that a couple of the wider faces were less sharp so had toyed with the idea of a smaller aperture which was along the right lines for a deeper depth of focus......

F11 (as suggested) might be a bit 'deep' (you admit F4 rather than F2) in terms of depth of focus but I don't think it's a "dumb' thing to say as (despite being dark) she didn't know how much you were wanting to 'throw' the background.

Why the ND8 ? - Are you not making life difficult for yourself ?

That must have slowed things down to the point of risking blurr regardless of the lighting ???? - or is it to handle the brighter areas you're lighting up ? - what shutter speed did it need ?

I'm not challenging you as I love the shot - I'd just like to work out the method......

Re: Before The Devil Steals Our Tango II

In this situation I use it because these B1600's are pretty powerful, and I can't turn them down as much as I need to be able to shoot this wide open without burning out their faces

AND, I didn't really mean it was dumb. Just far from the way I wanted it. Sorry about that

Re: Before The Devil Steals Our Tango II

No, it's not a dumb thing to say at all actually it's my opinion that it would look better with the background slightly less thrown out - but it's all personal. As it stands, no, I don't think this shot *is* up to your usual standard, because it's not properly focused. For me it spoils it.
