Manual v auto

Whilst I was out today taking photos at the Easter egg hunt I was shooting in manual.

Do you guys find it a pain sometimes when you have to keep changing your settings?

I got so annoyed I switched to auto in the end.

Does it just come with lots of practise?

I ask because when I am shooting a portrait or wedding the settings do not change as frequent as running around in the forest required lol.

Re: Manual v auto

It's much easier with the more expensive DSLRs as the controls are on the body itself, instead of having to go through the menu system. It's the biggest reason why I would like a more professional body, such as the D200 or D300

Re: Manual v auto

I always spend a few mins setting the camera up at the start... then it's just a matter of changing exposure/shutter speed etc... and i think the more you use manual modes, the faster and easier this will become...

Unfortunatly photography doesnt work like that If you want the best from your image and camera you need to to take the time to set it up. Yes it can be fustrating continually rechecking settings and taking readings, especially when you have extremely spontanious kids running around, but the results are always worth it.

On the D200 there are really too many external controls to list. The D70 etc you had to keep going into the menu to set the camera up, with the D200 nearly every major setting can be done via buttons/dials. You would have to actually see and have hands on the D200 and explained in the shop to understand what an improvement it is.
