Re: What are you willing to spend ?

Am I allowed to answer as photography is what I study at Uni? And obviously my career choice? But I'm not published yet or anything and my only exhibitions so far are Uni ones?

Course you're allowed to answer! I think it's great that your career choice is also your hobby. I plan to make that my goal in life - to do work that is also a hobby - I'm partway there with the music

Lol, it is a fair amount, when I bought the 300D there was only a choice of two bodies, the 300D and the 10D. Unfortunately Canon left a lot out of the 300D and after a while it became quite limiting. This is why I upgraded to the 30D, the 30D had the features left out of the 300D (Mirror lockup, second curtain sync etc) and had better noise handling as well as a lovely large LCD.

The only reason I went for a 5DMk11 was for full frame, now my 17-40 works as 17mm, so getting in a building in a single shot is much easier

I seriously doubt I will need to upgrade my body for 5 or more years now.

Time to save for something nice then

Alan.

Re: What are you willing to spend ?

Well I have recently upgraded to a Canon 5d Mark II, from my 30d, my reasoning for this is similar to Alan's the full frame mainly. I use it not only for the money making bits...such as weddings etc, but I use it for fashion shoots, personal projects for uni etc. The detail in the images is excellent and I can't see me needing to upgrade my digital equipment in the next few years. I am about to buy a Hasselblad Medium Format film camera, that will probably cost a little bit more than the Canon 5d Mark II to be honest, but it will be used primarily for fashion work to build my portfolio to apply for an MA at the end of my degree.

I am saving for some prime lenses for the 5d, make the most of it! And also a couple more Lomography cameras, my Holga is very much one of my personal faves at the mo! I discovered yesterday that there is one called the Horizon Perfekt - look it up on the Lomography website if you're interested in Lomography at all! Its stunning!

I also spend about £100 a month on films and darkroom materials...

So yeah, its turned into an expensive hobby, but I'm glad I've had the support of those around me to make every effort to turn it into my dream career!

Re: What are you willing to spend ?

I think I would be willing to spend just enough on a full frame DSLR that I would consider extremely good value. At the mo they're just too expensive for what you get and the tech is just not quite there yet. Then I would get some nice lens and a tripod - and hopefully that'd be it
