John Minihan

Was highly impressed last night with a lecture at Camera Club, by John Minihan who some of you may have heard of. He was a fantastically interesting and intelligent man, with a wealth of simply wonderful photography - and I bought a book (and had it signed! SUCH a fan-girl! ).

He was a good friend of Samuel Beckett - so when I found out he was doing the talk I nearly died of excitement - anyone who knows me knows what a deep love I have for Beckett's work.

Anyway - what a night, blew me away, and the book is awesome too! So nice to know he's a local photographer - we have a few well known and truly inspirational photographers living locally - I must make it my business to annoy them!

If anyone's interested here's his website - you may recognise his photo of Lady Diana Spencer.

Makes me want to go back to film even more now... it just feels like it has so much more soul! And I want a Hasselblad or Mamyia... but never mind - distant dream I think!

Re: John Minihan

Laura, how lucky are you to meet him, I know some of his pics, and he has a gift of really "seeing" the person, does that make sense? Hope you learnt loads, and really glad he was nice. xxx

Re: John Minihan

Oh yes, his gift for seeing the real person is highly impressive. He talked very fast for some hours! And it was one of the most fascinating talks I've been to yet - also incredibly inspiring... I now can't wait until I can afford a medium format (though after D700 probably!), and in the mean time am getting back in touch with my Canon. I had forgotten how special film photography is!

Re: John Minihan

He does sound like an interesting person, glad you weren't disappointed, as that would of been a let down

Yeah, there is something magical about film, that isn't there in digital, I would love to own a medium format camera too, maybe one day xx
