D80 lenses - esp. macro and/or reversing ring

Wondering if anyone has any advice on a good macro lens? I want to get really close shots, of such things as smaller insects, and no real budget (as am willing to save) however, under 800 euro would be preferable! lol

Would a reversing ring be good for macro stuff while i'm saving? and if so, what would i look for? how do they work? and how do I attach it to the camera?

am currently looking at the AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED - does anyone know if this is any good? or at all suitable for what I want?

also, I am sure the answer is yes, but can a converter be used with a D80? I use one on the film SLR, but am thinking of getting one for the d80 too

thanks in advance!

xx

Re: D80 lenses - esp. macro and/or reversing ring

Hi, can't help but a prime Macro between 70 and 105mm is on my next purchase list. I do keep wondering which end to go though, would the 70mm be best or should I go to a 105mm, if I could say what I would use it on it may help but until I have it I don't know.

Lets hope you get lots of answers and I can pick at them too. Heres hoping you get the answers you want and your lens is with you soon.

Re: D80 lenses - esp. macro and/or reversing ring

The nikon 105mm f/2.8G AF-s is a cracking lens! Probably the first choice for a macro for most people - but if they can't afford it the 60mm is next on their list.

The main advantage of the 105 is that you don't have to get so close to your subjects, meaning you won't get dark areas by using flash etc, and of course the benefits of not having to get so close to things that might sting or bite

Go for it! I doubt you'll be dissapointed!

Re: D80 lenses - esp. macro and/or reversing ring

I have the new Nikon 60mm Macro and its fantastic! I was also considering a reversing ring and spoke to my college tutor about it, he basically said you get what you pay for, a reversing ring is ok but if you really want to get into macro photography to get a proper lens
