AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR

Thought this looked an interesting lens.

Quite a stretch at 18-300mm but certainly very versatile.

Versatile indeed . Would be interested to see quality though, as often these ultra zooms tend to be a bit soft.

Yep - that's why I said it was "quite a stretch" but if IQ turned out to be on a par with two mid priced zooms then it would make a really attractive option especially if Nikon bundled it in at a reasonable price with a body kit.

Re: AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR

Interesting to compare

AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR= £849.99

with
Tamron 18-250Mm Macro f3.5-6.3 (Nikon) Di ll LD Asph (IF) LENS= £360

Is the extra 50mm and having VR worth £490 more on the Nikon?

That's the 6 million dollar question I guess Bazza.

Canon/Nikon V third party is always an issue when it come to price and that extra bit of reach does allow a few extra £s to be added as it takes it into the realms of casual birding / wildlife.

With this huge zoom range I fear the compromises in image quality and distortion will be quite significant for some.

One day perhaps they will invent pliable optics, then lens designs will really be transformed.

Re: AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR

Ive the 18-200mm (27-300 on my D300) and now I know its limits find it totally amazing lens and is used 90% of the time so I can't see why this isnt as good if not better
