New glass, new lights
I went a bit mad and bought some second hand studio lights from eBay, and a new nifty 50mm f1.8 prime. In my opinion it is a lovely sharp lens...

Unbelievable. I ordered two modelling lights for the kit from Wex Photographic at about 3pm yesterday.
They arrived at half past seven this morning!

WEX are based in Norwich 20 miles from me and have a nice big showroom. I believe they have won awards for customer service, your case shows they were probably warranted.

50mm f1.8 is a cracking little lens.
I tend to reach for mine if I'm shooting indoors and don't want flash. Stopped down a bit it's a sharp lens too.
