Red Squirrel, Ospreys and a Swallow

Had an afternoon out with my 4 year old daughter on Monday. I didn't get much time or luck with the birds but she enjoyed herself which was the main thing.

Conditions could have been better for this shot LOL

The Ospreys were quiet today and were too far away on the one chance I had. I'll be popping back as there are 4 eggs due to hatch over the next few weeks which will result in more activity in terms of feeding and fishing etc.

and a token red. Again, not great but I liked the exploding nut.

Re: Red Squirrel, Ospreys and a Swallow

Varied and interesting set Phil. I look forward to seeing some more Osprey shots. I really like the first shot, excellent considering the light.

Re: Red Squirrel, Ospreys and a Swallow

I enjoyed watching the ospreys in Florida but do not expect to see any here in Michigan, I think there are some but I can't remember ever seeing them. A;; your shots are fine but I like the 2nd one best...Shirley

Re: Red Squirrel, Ospreys and a Swallow

I agree to the first shot being my favourite, but the rest are hot on the heels. I have a link to an osprey web cam on my desk top just now, take a few peeks a day, nothing happening as yet.

cheers Marion

Re: Red Squirrel, Ospreys and a Swallow

Love the red squirrel

We were up at Glenmore today but the reds were a bit scruffy looking cause they were moulting I think they said at the vistor centre.

Re: Red Squirrel, Ospreys and a Swallow

Thanks for looking in folks

Marion - I'm waiting till the chicks hatch before going back again to do any photography.

When I was there a couple of weeks ago the male and female were going off and returning to swap over only every few hours. It was a case of wait a few hours for a ten second chance then wait again. Twice I missed it as I was taking my daughter to the loo.

Once the chicks hatch they will be fishing and exchanging perhaps every 20mins or so - which makes life a lot easier (or at least gives more chances) for photography.

They're still hoping the eggs haven't failed....

The wait for hatching goes on……. Yes we are all biting our nails here too. Yes we are concerned the eggs may have failed after they were left exposed during incubation for more than an hour. No we haven’t given up hope , or anywhere near it yet- there is still plenty of time yet as eggs 2-4 are not even ‘due’ yet.

Do you know why Squirrels swim on their back?

Answer

Its to keep their nuts dry

Re: Red Squirrel, Ospreys and a Swallow

I will keep a close eye on things. Need to persuade my husband to get up early once the chicks are born, could be a long day
