Little Egret - C&C please :)

OK - here's some from the other day. Not brilliant light, but it could have been worse. I rather liked the atmosphere in them, but want some CC please, if no-one minds giving Anything anyone would try in PS also? Please ignore any slight softness there may be - again PBucket seems to have softened things a little - but that aside...

Both lovely shots Z. Although the bird is looking a little awkward in the first one. Really like that second one - it's almost as though the bird is deep in thought

Re: Little Egret - C&C please :)

Composition is nice, they're sharp in terms of focus and the whites look just right to me.

The light does seem a little hazy but that's probably beyond your control.

Re: Little Egret - C&C please :)

Wonderful shots Laura, I prefer the first shot over the second for some reason. I think the first shot looks more interesting because the bird is facing camera.

Re: Little Egret - C&C please :)

Even though you had poor lighting the Egret itself looks good. So easy to end up with white being washed out. I do think it is better photographing white birds like Egret and Swans when the weather is dull and miserable. The colors are captured near to how we see them through our eyes. Whereas photographing them in bright sunlight, when it comes to processing them you can over do the processing when trying to tone the image down and end up with not so natural whites. Or you just end up binning them.

Re: Little Egret - C&C please :)

Thanks all I was happy enough with the whites on these - and I like the colour (despite it being obviously cold and miserable). I think the haziness was what was bothering me really - and no, nothing I can do about that. 'Tis lens error... I have so much nasty cack inside the lens on the elements will have to get it cleaned at some stage I suppose - but I had been meaning to upgrade to a newer model for some time, so this week I will probably be going for a 150-500mm as an easier carry around lens, and then get the 50-500mm cleaned up, and either keep it as a second long lens for the D80, or sell it if I need to.
