Northern Mockingbird

I've waited ages to see my first Mockingbird, and he didn't disappoint!

They really are incredibly noisy infact they don't shut up! It is amazing how vocal they are, they just keep singing, and singing.

Sadly, they seem to be bullies when it comes to other birds though, kept herding my garden regulars up,and scaring them off

They are quite ballsy too, was not bothered by me at all,so hopefully be able to get some more if he comes back.

I also got an Eastern Bluebird, but the pics aren't very good, so maybe get some better ones soon.

Thanks for looking x

Re: Northern Mockingbird

Not yet! (one of most fave books, and films for that matter) but the novelty could wear thin,if it doesn't change it's tune.

My neighbour, has warned me that if it is looking for a mate, and they nest in my garden, they can become quite territorial and swoop and peck if you go into what it perceives as their territory till their babies have left

I phoned my Mum earlier, and shoved the phone near it, so she could hear how many calls it makes, it is amazing how many birds it imitates.

Re: Northern Mockingbird

Love those shots!
The first one feels a little crowded by the left hand side. Could the background be stretched a little to allow for a different crop?
That second one is stunning! Great detail.

We had a blackbird that was like there.
Used to attack us everytime we went in the garden. Nearly knocked me off a ladder once while I was trying to save our cat that it was attacking!!!

Re: Northern Mockingbird

I agree, wish there was a little room around him. But I am pleased with the second shot.

They are quite big, so I really don't want a nutty bird attacking me, or more importantly the kids can understand why they do it though, hopefully he won't find a mate here and move on

Aww poor cat and you, can you imagine going to A&E and saying a bird knocked me off my ladder!

Re: Northern Mockingbird

Those are very good shots moonie. I would like to have seen more space in the 1st image, ie landscape crop rather than portrait. Did you shoot it in portrait orientaion or just crop it like that? If not, I'd like to see another crop with space to the birds left as I think this is one of your best captures so far
