400D 450D or 40D

I can't make up my mind, pros and cons to all 3?

Re: 400D 450D or 40D

Personally I would get the 40D, it's only £500 once you get the £100 cashback from Canon (check their website first).

If you can't stretch to that, then the others are great cameras too - and you can't go wrong with either (The 450d has 12MP over the 400ds 10MP).

What is your budget?
Kit 1
Nikon D300
Nikon 55-200mm VR
Kit 2
Nikon D40
Nikon 18-55mm

Re: 400D 450D or 40D

I personally think you should go into a shop first and get a feel for all three. For myself, the 400 and the 450 are too small to operate comfortably (and I have fairly small hands! ).

The feel of the camera will probably sway your decision (although you also have to take into consideration your budget). Out of those three I would personally go for the 40D (I have one of it's predecessors) and failing that the 450D.
Kit 1
Canon 20D
Canon 28-135 3.5-5.6 IS USM
Canon 70-300 4-5.6 IS USM
Canon 100 2.8 USM Macro
Canon 10-22mm 3.5-4.5
Canon 50mm 1.4
Canon 85mm 1.8

Re: 400D 450D or 40D

I would personally say the 400D if you are a novice, the 40D IMO is a fair bit more advanced.

Canon 100-400mm L IS USM.
Canon EF 50mm f/2.5 macro

Re: 400D 450D or 40D

As Dawn says the 400D is great if you are just starting out. I went for it a few months ago and with the money saved bought a macro lens. There is more than enough on it to keep me learning for a while.
Kit 1
Canon EOS400D
Canon 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM
Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6
Canon EF-S 10-18mm
Kit 2
Canon EOS750D

Re: 400D 450D or 40D

I'm not a complete novice but have reached the capacities the camera I have now allows so need to upgrade. I don't want to get one and wanting to be trading it in after 12 months, I want it to last me a fair while. I have some savings for it so my budget is enough for the 40D but at the same time it's pointless spending more if one of the others will be enough. I'm looking into doing a short (well 6 month) digital photography course as i'm interested on doing pet photography and portraits in the future.

Cheers guys.

What is your budget R? Do you have any Canon lens already? Did you want a 'nice' lens to start with or don't mind waiting/saving up for one?

Id recommend the 450D then, very good camera, loads of features, and a decent price.

The only one I haven't handled is the 40d, I have actually used the 400d as a friend of mine has one and I have lent it on a few occasions when people have asked me to take some pictures for them so am confident with that but was looking for a little bit more tbh, although if someone were to offer me one for a cracking deal I wouldn't say no. Have only handled the 450 in store and am quite comfortable with both of these over the Nikons.

Hi Az, I have saved just over a grand but don't want to spend that much on a camera (body) alone. The less I spend the better obviously, but more so as i'm starting my own business in just a couple of months so it would come on handy if I saved a bit. I have no lens atm as this would be my first DSLR of my own although as I said I have used the 400d and another friend's Nikon although personally I prefer Canon.
