Re: Show me a good monitor.

My budget is as little as possible , but a good monitor for photos, so I am open to any suggestions.

What about Jacks suggestion?

Re: Show me a good monitor.

I have a friend who might be selling an old monitor - that seemed to be very good - (again sorry to hijack) so this thread is interesting. I know nothign of any of these things though, so Azz - can you explain what all that means?

Re: Show me a good monitor.

I recommend the Dell 2209WA (make sure it has the A on the end).

paste this url into your browser: accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&s=dhs&sku=1 98660

The RRP is £250, but if you ring dell and say you found it cheaper on the web they tend to drop it a bit! Also it will come with a 3yr warranty so buy direct from them. If you're not great with haggling you can get it for £200 from ebuyer or scan: http://www.google.co.uk/products?hl=...num=1&ct=title But just ring dell and say you've seen it for £200 - they should price match (and give you the 3yr waranty)

So now, WHY?

Well it has an IPS variant panel which is MUCH better for graphical work. The colours shift in cheapy TN panels even if you move a little bit (see second vid), but not only that the (TN) panels have less colour range and accuracy too.

Take a look at these vids, and don't hesitate (!) you are photographers and your monitor is just as important as your other kit - if you've got a crappy monitor, when you edit you won't really have much of a clue of what's what.

S-IPS vs TN - look at how crappy the TN panel is on the right..

Re: Show me a good monitor.

Azz, those videos helped a lot, and I have found it for $279, so not as scary as I thought, and now having seen the differences, think you have me convinced.

Thank you xxx

Re: Show me a good monitor.

It's a good size Dawn, and you really need a widescreen one thesedays - most operating systems are geared up for them now too.

You'll be very hard pressed to find a smaller non-TN panel tbh, as there's just not a call for them in 'budget' monitors.

I would seriously consider getting this one... anyone who's serious about photography should get a decent monitor, or what they work on isn't really going to be very accurate, not only will the colours most likely be off, but you'll be missing so many of them anyway due to the monitors inability to display them.
