Re: Conned by leading Uk retailer

Yeah, suprised they haven't given you something as a goodwill gesture, maybe a memory card or something. Maybe you will still get a voucher or something from Head Office? That really is poor to get a shop used camera. Once you get it though I'm sure when you see the results you will be pleased and this incident will be forgotten.

Just reading a few days ago Jessops are now in more trouble. Incidents don't help them nor their prices, but it would still be sad to see them go off the High Street.

Digressing again but I'm suprised they sell any D300's at that price. Around Nov/Dec you could have picked these up for £875 if you had a discount code at Currys, or around £899 in several places. £1099 unbelievable. The 50mm nifty fifty is around £115 in some places, it was £70 in Jessops a few months back. Not a good time to buy.

Re: Conned by leading Uk retailer

Just linked this with the other thread, I am so sorry Bazza, totally takes the pleasure away to have something like this happen, would advise asking for a full refund and take your money somewhere more reliable and trustworthy, if they are not prepared to offer a decent service when you are making a purchase what hope if you require service at a latter date.

The prices are only about £100 GBP cheaper here from trusted retailers. You can get great deals online, but I am wary of parting with my money, when I am not sure if they are a legit company.

Nikon is more expensive than Canon here . One reason why I may switch to getting a 50D, it is cheaper to buy a 50D with a lens kit, than a D300 body only

I do regret not buying the D300 six months ago, as there is no way I am going to pay more for it now, especially if the D400 is due out soon.

Sorry Bazza off topic xxxxx

Re: Conned by leading Uk retailer

I have been severely critised on another forum for ranting and raving and what I was prepared to do. What I would say to those people is " wait until it happens to you"

As you all know I have always spoken my mind which often leads me into trouble, but at least I have a clear concience.

Re: Conned by leading Uk retailer

You hear more and more with 'new' Nikon cameras

Nobody begrudges consumer rights these days Bazza so well done you for speaking your mind. For every one person that 'pipes up' there's plenty that seem happy enough to accept crap service.

Whether in a shop or a restaurant, I'll often see Karen's head drop as she wonders what the hell I'm going to say

Sorry to hear that Bazza but I think you have had words of support here. I think in any forum nobody would want to accept a used item if they were paying for a new one. I would say however there is little point in wasting any energy and anger until you find out what they were prepared to do about it.

Maybe it was a genuine mistake, the company quickly rectify the problem and are very apologetic, maybe they give you the option of keeping the same camera but give you 5% discount, maybe they do nothing...can't see the point of making a big song and dance until you get a company response. Not talking about you particularly, more generally. Just the way I work that's all, but we are all different. It's all on a scale of things. I would have posted a point to other people about it, maybe asked for advice, that's pretty much what you did here.

Re: Conned by leading Uk retailer

Think when you hear that you are not the first this has happened to you become somewhat more crusading, and why not.

If someone has a genuine reason for complaint, and Bazza has, then I think you should make that complaint and I agree with you he is not OTT at all - what do these other forum people suggest, that you ignore you have not got what you bought and carry on as if you have been dealt with fairly when,, in fact, you have not.
