Desert at twilight

Well, almost the desert...Jebel Hafeet, Al Ain, United Arab Emirates. There is a twisty road that goes on for miles spiralling up or down the highest mountain point in Abu Dhabi Emirate. I was just coming down at twilight and loved the sky out over the desert and the artificial lights of the road and an industrial area. Nikon D200, Nikon 12-24, tripod. Quite a lot of exposures to try and get a balance with the sky and artificial lighting. As always, comments, critiques, ideas welcome...

Re: Desert at twilight

I love this one - wonderful colours. I can imagine it was real test for the exposure.

If I had to crit it - I would say the angle of the horizon / clouds gives it a 'leaning' feel.

Not sure how to rectify it though as to straighten it would result in the really nice orange ridge in the foreground being at an angle.

Had a wee go using the transform - distort tool in PS (hope you dont mind)

Distorted to get the horizon horizontal but keep everything else as it was

Obviously the crop would then differ. I probably should have pulled the top left corner up rather than the top right corner down.

Re: Desert at twilight

I have re-edited the original pic to straighten up that horizon a little. Thanks for the advice, I had noticed it but over-looked putting it right! Got a bit distracted with something else...

In this instance I have just re-edited the jpg I am using for upload, will do a better fix on the original.

Re: Desert at twilight

Really like this, to be honest I did not notice the horizon way slightly sloping, may be because I have a tendency to lean to the left (nothing political) but a photographic fault.

Do you wear specs? I do and have astigmatism. I have a tendancy to tilt my cam and give a sloping horizon on landscapes. I switch on the grid in my viewfinder now but it still happens. There is not enough or the correct type of dioptre adjustment in the cam viewfinder for me to look with specs. Years ago I used to wear contact lenses which was better.
