Thanks for the comments folks, I like turbines only in a photographic way as they are an interesting addition to some landscapes.

Hi Ste, thanks for the reply.

I confess that I really like some of the shots you have posted and I'm always interested in how you came to take them, were they a planned shoot or were you just out with the camera while visiting a location? I'm interested because I never quite know myself which root to take when it come to landscapes, I'll sometime see a scene or sunset (which happens quite often where I work) but have no camera with me, or I'll have my gear with me but am frustrated as to how to capture it best.

I guess what I'm trying to say is; landscapes composition does not come very natural/easy to me and when I see some of your landscape shots I'm intrigued as to how you got it, if that makes sense

Re: Another sunset....without the men!

Thanks for liking my shots Ken, I very rarely go out with the camera and take a few odd shots it's pretty much always a preplanned photo trip.

I'm still an average landscape togger so try and do as much as I can to try and improve, I was slated on a forum for some of my early attempts and it hammered my confidence and also was given some pretty sharp critique on here for which I'm still in 2 minds about posting landscapes.

I stick to a few rules to try and get something decent, have something in the foreground something that leads through pic if poss and something at the back!! I use the rule of thirds a lot to start and then may play around.

The shot you commented on was an idea I got when I was on the beach after I'd got the shot I was after, that being this one:

and a variation in this one:

I had the idea of the pic I wanted to take when I went there a while back and as I was in the area taking the lighthouse shots I decided to try it as the sky was clear and that was what I wanted for the pic.

I generally go with an idea of what I want, or when I get to a place never been have a look at what might make a decent pic. I will always take a few variations on the idea and I find using a tripod makes me think before I click.

Re: Another sunset....without the men!

Thanks for the detailed reply, that really helps a lot as there are some good points you've made that I had not thought of.

Like I said, landscape is a discipline that at times frustrates me. I went out with an old friend last year for a walk around and he would some times wait for the light as the clouds moved about, again something I'd not thought of.
